Kid’s Book Review: Listen Slowly by Thanhha Lai

listen slowly.jpg

Mai is sent to Vietnam with her grandmother in hopes of finding what happened to her grandmother’s husband after the war. When she arrives, she meets a young girl her age named Ut, who she immediately doesn’t like. During her grandmother’s quest, Ut and Mai have fun moments and become good friends.

Rating: 7.5/10 – The girls ate snails and they described that very clearly. Because I have pet snails and care about them, it was a little upsetting to me. This book was very descriptive of Vietnam and gave me a good idea of what it might be like there.
